So is the iPad all that?

I am writing on the WordPress app for iPad in bed while the younger kidlets watch Pinky & the Brain (ok I am too, love Pinky & the Brain)…

It is a sheer unexpected ball of magic delight. The iPad has been hype central.

The hype doesn’t begin to convey just how damn amazingly wonderful they feel, what a joy they are to use. You will hear much more from me on the subject over next few weeks, but I am unabashedly blown away.

Why I am leaving Facebook

I posted this morning on Facebook I was leaving. I explained the privacy concerns I have, including

Facebook’s new features secretly add apps to your profile | Social Media | Macworld.

and

Neowin.net – Facebook’s new features can secretly add apps [Updated].

and, finally,

Mistakes like that are NOT ok. I do not believe they were mistakes, quite frankly.  I agree with the Wired article.

I am keeping Twitter, like the ship in Silent Running, just floating in space, quiet, pointing here. Buzz may or may not allow me some technical connections., but filtering the gold from the dross is proving difficult, and as yet, unresolved for me. Facebook, however, is gone.

Yet there is more to my decision to leave Facebook, and it’s about time. Yes, i know;)

I have too much time. I have too little time. Not contradictory, obvious and complimentary.

In the good times, I have some mobility, not as much pain, the drugs aren’t making me too sick.

I have five amazing people i am proud to call my children, four of whom still have raising to be done. I have my elderly dad, and even though he is recovering from severe cancer, i want to spend time with him while i can. I have magic friends. I have quilting as an art medium. I web develop part time, to make a small mark of independence in my life, and it gives me huge joy to create that way, too. I am learning guitar, finally, after many years of longing to.  There is sunshine and beach and air and life to be explored when i am mobile. I do not have time for signal to noise. I have a life.

In the bad times, i have pain and drug side effects.

I have the need to escape. Into other wheres, other minds, other times. I do not have time for signal to noise. I am struggling to survive.Into audio books, print books, movies, anything that can help expand my mind at best, escape and wryly, wincingly smile, at least. And at worst, i endure.

I am leaving noone but a bunch of electrons. I have no need to advertise myself, or promote myself. I have learnt what I need to, and am leaving.

It has taken me two days and i STILL haven’t managed to finish cleaning out my FB profile yet, to removing current data. I know, too little, too late, but why compound it? Every privacy setting is on, I have removed their new exciting page options, or malware as i believe it, and woudl remove my profile altogetehr if not for squatters (unlikely with my name, but still).

I have decided to do the same with all my socnets.

Find me here, my place, where I own and control things.

Or not:)

Cheesed off day….

Read this first, cause then my rant makes SOME sort of sense in a rambling incoherent take a breath once n a while woman kind of way.

Would you like some cheese with your Whine?

Done?  Cool. Now….

Begineth the ranteth!

ok. i get pissy a lot. hugely.

i am sitting in this gorgeous redone ikea’d and me’d room haven wishing i had strength, no pain, and energy to put together the last bit, the bookcase (books!!! need books in here!!), but did the rest yesterday….(yeah of COURSE i overdid it) and it is so close to being my dream room

and wishing i had my new blue soothing gorgeous quilt (that is still sitting as a design on my computer and a pile of fabrics), and looking at the rest of the house (chaos, mayhem, mess, usual) and thinking about how tired and old and mangled (and loved and loved in and lived in and lifed in) the furniture looks and thinking of all the things i want to get done and i have web sites to do today and i havent picked up my guitar in TWO days to practice and…

oh help. im pissy again;)

Lifestreaming

I seem to have been lifestreaming for a while without even knowing it, now I am going to refine that to a better integration with the blog – I hope!

For help in implementing your own lifestream, MakeUseof Lifestreaming how to, or their newest Lockergnome articles are useful. Or a simple solution I am leaning towards is organising your digital lifestream.

One day I must finish redesign, a designer who is using someone else’s design is odd, but shoemaker’s childre go unshod, is the old saying, or mechanics drive the worst cars – when one is good, one is employed…

Testing iBlogger

image1761159952.jpgSo, new blogging app. I liked wordpress, but this one has some nice features!!! Also, more flexible for us webdev types;)

And the flowers? To celebrate the end of evil Allianz case, my friends got them for me:)

So, new app, fresh start:)

the buzz wears off of social media – overload imminent!

I have decided. No more twitter, friendfeed, tumblr, plurk, brightkite, soup,io, identica, etc etc. I will have greader, buzz, gmail, linked in (for work reasons) and facebook (my kids are on that and many of my friends). let us see how to manage that.
so initial notes:
i have chrome running in two instances, but switching windows is a pain. In one instance, browsing things, in the other, gmail, facebook, greader, wave.
and how do you detect which messages are new? turning them off in inbox helps reduce email annoyance, but tracking conversations becomes really hard.
