‘Princess Bride’ Reunion Interview

Little bit of morning bliss – my favourite movie, ever. Bar none. It is the perfect movie, in my mind. And these people all seem wonderful. I am so grateful for their magic:)

But gosh, i feel so old now….

Perfect tv finales

Sylvester McCoy as the Seventh Doctor

Image via Wikipedia

As pointed out in the comments of this article, Sylvester McCoy‘s*  classic speech to Ace in the seventh Dr Who episode Survival, which becam the final (until new Who), was a surprisingly apt choice (noone at the time knew it was the end) – and it has long been a favourite of mine:

There are worlds out there where the skies are burning, where the seas asleep, and the rivers dream. People made of smoke, and cities made of song. Somewhere there’s danger, somewhere there’s injustice…and somewhere else the tea is getting cold. Come on Ace…we’ve got work to do!

And of course, as they list, the Blackadder series wraps up with the shocking end to the hilarity – so poignant, bitter, and appropriate. Someone in the comments also counts Season 4 as the best place to end Babylon 5 on – and oh, how I agree!

* did i mention i have met Sylvester, Colin Baker, and the lovely Katy Manning – splendid chaps, all of them! Colin called me a Titian beauty, and claimed that, as my name is Romana, and Tom Baker briefly was married to Lalla Ward, Romana no 2, i am married to him and Sylvester, who laughed and agreed. Oh, swoon….

The loss of a friend…

Someone said strangers are friends you haven’t met yet. In this case, he was right. In a day where i have cried for a stranger, i came across this via io9. And i cried for someone who, while a stranger, was not really one to many children around the world, (and also many adults) – she just never felt like a stranger. She felt like a friend. And her loss felt more personal.

Goodbye, my Sarah-Jane. Oh, and farewell, my Brigadier.

Doctor Who tribute to Brigadier

Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart

Image via Wikipedia

There are some actors who affect you profoundly with their character. For many other people besides myself, Nicholas Courtney provided one of those characters. Like the radiantly special Elisabeth Sladen, his Doctor Who character, The Brigadier, Brigadier Alistair Lethbridge-Stewart, provided a sparkling human counterpoint to the Doctor. Strong but flexible, this actor played the character as if he was the man. He has been deeply mourned by the community. I cried when he died, as did many others. He was one of the few ‘human’s in the series who you felt could make things ok.

I am glad they are honouring that.

He has battled an insane half-human, half-flesh mutant called Jennifer, crash-landed in Nazi Germany and met up with his old foes the Cybermen in the series so far.But on Saturday night the Doctor will take time off from saving the Earth – and himself – to pay tribute to one of the shows most popular actors, Nicholas Courtney, who died this year after playing the Doctors companion, Brigadier Alistair Lethbridge-Stewart, over a period of more than 40 years.

Is Babylon 5 gearing up for a big comeback?

Is Babylon 5 in the midst of a big comeback? The original Alfred Bester, Walter Koenig, spilled the beans on creator J. Michael Straczynski’s new plans to bring the series back.

According to Trek Movie, Koenig (who is probably best known as Pavel Chekov from Star Trek) appeared at the Las Vegas Star Trek convention, and had this to say about Babylon 5:

“[J Michael Straczynski] told me that he is in negotiations to re-acquire the rights to Babylon 5 and it looks pretty good. Now what that portends I am not entirely sure. It could be a new series or it could be a feature film, but he was quite animated about it. He seemed very excited and Warner Brothers is dealing with him in good faith. So you might see another Babylon 5 in the not too distant future.”

Fox Orders 13-Episode Sequel To Carl Sagan’s ‘Cosmos’ Docu-Series With Seth MacFarlane Producing For 2013 Launch – Deadline.com

After recently signing on to reboot one classic TV show, Hanna-Barberas The Flintstones, Seth MacFarlane is taking on another iconic TV series, Carl Sagans Cosmos: A Personal Voyage. Fox has greenlighted Cosmos: A Space-Time Odyssey, a 13-part docu-series from Family Guy creator MacFarlane and late Sagans original collaborators – his widow, writer/producer Ann Druyan and astrophysicist Steven Soter. Envisioned as a successor to the Emmy and Peabody Award-winning original 13-part program, which was hosted by Sagan, the new Cosmos series will be hosted by renowned astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson.

I cannot begin to tell you how much real joy i find in this. Cosmos was probably the show that most influenced who i am.

Hope Vangelis does the music again…

What have i done this weekend?

Horse drawn tram on causeway at Victor Harbor,...

Recovered from taking the kidlets to the show. First time since wheelchair. An – interesting experience! Points go to Ms nearly 16 for accompanying and being amazing:) The 2 little ones were great. They had a swag of showbags, loved the baby animals and the bouncy castle a lot. Rides were just too hard to get on, so a say at Victor Harbor, where such things still persist, is looming. (Also means the utterly loved joy of the horse drawn tram, but with wheelchair? Nervous…but will give it a shot!)

Yesterday the little ones and i got down and floury – blood orange scones. Over 2 dozen, slowly disappearing as we speak. They had their own rolling pin and cutting board, and we made many odd and fun shapes.

Scrapheap Challenge on iView – the kidlets and i curl up in the evening on my big bed, draw the curtains (yay four poster), and watch it on my 24″ Mac screen. Bliss curled up giggling with them. Confessions of naughty showbag goodies being polished off during;)

Taught Ms almost 16 how to make a fruity apple and plum casserole, with leftover roast pork and veges. Love cooking with the horde.

I put a light polish of makeup on Ms 9 this morning – you know, the first time i have put makeup on one of my kids! Weird. Calisthenic photos (her team won their competitions, i am so damn proud!!!). Home via groceries acquisition (a perennial non fave;) ) Must remember custom bag i made for Kermit the wonder chair. I am my own shopping trolley!

Ms 18 next month (gasp shock horror really!) was away yesterday post a sleepover with a dear friend. Came home with a resurgence of her not so dear cold. She suffers not in silence;)

Ms 24 has had a full on week. Love that amazing young woman. She is handling things with foresight and determination to try to do the right thing. Love her courage.

Dad is doing well, he likes the weekends and the break from his daily cancer treatment. Loves having the noise and chaos of the horde around him:)

The dogs are delighting in the weekend too – kids! Crumbs! Running around the backyard with them!

More snuggly scrapheap fun later. The kidlets are turning into almost as much of a Robert Llewellyn fan as their mum:)

School tomorrow, much paperwork for Serval for me. The week ran away, and I don’t wheel that fast;)

Perhaps mundane to anyone else, but my quiet joys are deep and true. I also dreamt and wrote and yearned and pined and was outraged. That is a whole other story:)

Oh. Umm. Wow? Err.

Ok, obviously I love my Doctor Who. A lot.

Johnny Depp, happy squees, sure, but movies of the Doctor scare me post the ill fated let is never speak of it again Eighth Doctor‘s only seeing of the light of day (though much better in audio books etc..recommend tracking those adventures down…poor Paul McGann was a natural for the role, just the movie story itself sucked. Sigh). Americans producing, shudder of even more horror.
