I am subject to change without notice...

How sick of tangled headphones are you?

Look, my iPhone, the beloved Sonic Screwdriver, is always at my side, my all purpose Swiss Army Knife solution to many of my problems, well, mostly communication & entertainment based ones.

Which means I use my headphones a lot. Not just a way to listen, a blessed way to shut our over noisy, too stimulating world OUT. (Try it in a shopping centre, ohhh, the release, the relief – somehow, it makes the visual over stimulation bearable).

So noise cancelling headphones matter to me. I have a pair that cost me over $40, but oh, even if just used as ear plugs, the blessed silence.

No, I don’t know the brand off the top of my head, it’s 6am and I am comfy in bed, a rare treat. I will look at some point if there is interest. They are black is all I have atm, and the microphone is a sadly lacking in quality afterthought…

Oh dear, rambled off again, where was I headed? Oh yes, oddly enough, and this is the first you knew of it, I was thinking about the storing of headphones.

Or, to be more precise, the blasted inevitable tangling, and my ongoing quest* to find a solution. One that suits my inclination and general lack of time requirement to just fling them in to my bag of holding.

Ok, that restriction is proving the nirvana I am unlikely to attain. However, simple, low cost, relatively quick for time poor (excuse), impatient (reality) usage remains a bit of a quest. Not a huge one, as I am so terribly occupied with being time poor.

Nonetheless, I sort of persist, as much as any of my raised by flickering images generation manages. To that end, the current trial is :

“Emulate my Dad’s frustration with Xmas lights solution on a sort of homage to his frustrated grumblings”

Ok, kind of wordy, but it sheds a light (get it?? Look, I said it was early:( ) on the thinking. Dad used a cardboard roll insert from baking paper to roll the lights.

Now, lugging a roll that size will be impractical, (not impossible, I DO have a bag of holding after all), so I am proposing to use an empty cotton reel, with lipped edges that flare slightly, to see how that goes. I have thought of a few impracticalities already, but I feel I owe it to the spirit of exploration to attempt it.

Reporting back in a later post:)

* I know it isn’t much of a quest, but you take what you can;)

I have a baby computer mouse which has a spring loaded reel for the cord. It works similar to a tape measure which stays out while you are measuring and then a flick of the switch causes it to spring back into its casing without a tangle; much like the retractable vacuum cleaner cords.
I wonder how we get our hands on something like that to which we can fetter the headphone cable.
