There’s been a drift away from public schools towards private schools in Australia, with a 2004 ANU paper stating that private school enrolments have risen from 20% of the student population in the late 1970s to near 33% in 2004. Religious affiliations feature significantly in private school histories, and to a lesser extent in the present.

Do you claim that people are not “sensible” by choosing private schooling over public schooling?

And more generally, the reporter’s writing in the story is somewhat imprecise: He provides a sketchy summary of the Vitorian Humanist Society as: ‘The society does not consider itself to be a religious organisation and believes ethics have “no necessary connection with religion”‘.

So… if “Humanism” isn’t connected with religion, what place does it have being taught in “religious education classes”?! Someone seems to getting confused, and/or using terms in a sloppy fashion (looking through various Google articles, starting from “humanism”, suggests that there’s many shades of meaning and/or variations in how people use the terms “humanism” or “humanist”.
